Differs from orana and its subspecies by its much larger size, more
brilliant red colour and in having the seventh outer spot longer and straighter.
Expanse 23 mm.

3.1. Nahrung der Raupe

Die Art lebt als Raupe (auch in der Zucht) ausschließlich an Ononis-Arten. Nach Hofmann & Tremewan (2020: 389) sind O. fruticosa, O. cristata, O. thomsonii, O. viscosa, O. spinosa und O. natrix als Freiland-Raupennahrung abgesichert. Teilweise wird nur die dornlose O. fruticosa, aber das gilt für alle Gebiete, so dass es in der Nutzung von dornlosen und dornigen Arten innerhalb der hilaris-group keinen prinzipiellen Unterschied zwischen den Arten gibt.

Nach der Checkliste in Hofmann & Tremewan (2017: 54) gehört die Art in die Untergattung Agrumenia und dort in die "hilaris-group".
