Plant et al. (2026: 488-489) nehmen ausführlich Stellung zum angeblichen Vorkommen in Albanien: "Utech (1962) reports vacated mines of “Stagmatophora rosmarinella (Walsingham)” at Durres, 12-VIII 1959, citing species number 4397 in Hering’s catalogue (Hering, 1957). Walsingham used the name rosmarinella twice - for Vulcaniella rosmarinella (Walsingham, 1891) and for Teucmerium [=Tecmerium] rosmarinella (Walsingham, 1901), but of these two, only the Vulcaniella is a leaf-miner and this coincides with species 4397 in Hering’s work. Koster & Sinev (2003) give the distribution of Vulcaniella rosmarinella as affecting Southern Europe, eastwards to Greece and Crete and northern Africa, but this is at odds with the chronologically more recent distribution map shown at https://lepiforum.org/wiki/page/Vulcaniella_rosmarinella#Diagnose-Erstbeschreibung. In this latter resource, the entire area of the Balkans lacks the species. Erik van Nieukerken (personal communication, May 2025), advises that it is a coastal species and is indeed likely to be absent from most of the Bakans, though it is probably present in Greece. The present record is based solely on vacated leaf mines and so the species cannot reliably be added to the Albanian checklist. Tenanted mines should be searched for."
