3.1. Taxonomie

Bartsch (2021: 33-34) erheben das bisher als Subspecies von P. doryliformis geführte Taxon aufgrund von Barcode-Untersuchungen in den Artrang.

3.2. Faunistik

Die Art ist mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit ein Endemit von Sizilien. Lingenhöle in Bartsch et al. (2021: 34) teilt dazu mit: “It is unlikely to be found in other parts of southern Italy as numerous Pyropteron larvae from Apulia from various localities and different species of Rumex produced several hundred specimens of P. chrysidiformis, but not a single P. icteropus”.
