Meyrick (1893: 541) beschrieb seine neue Art in der Gattung Tinea, also als Vertreter der Familie Tineidae. Sie wurde erst sehr viel später in die von Davis (1986) aus Südamerika beschriebene Familie Palaephatidae überführt.

Meyrick (1893: 541) beschrieb seine "Tinea tetropa nach einem Einzel-Exemplar aus Australien: "Mount Lofty, South Australia."
