Turner (1926: 153) beschrieb seine neue Art in der Gattung Tinea, also als Vertreter der Familie Tineidae. Sie wurde erst sehr viel später in die von Davis (1986) aus Südamerika beschriebene Familie Palaephatidae überführt.

Turner (1926: 153) beschrieb seine "Tinea phaeochrysa" nach einem Einzel-Exemplar aus Australien: "Queensland: National Park (3,000 feet)."
