Walker (1864: 898) beschrieb seine neue Art in der Gattung Elachista, also als Vertreter der Familie Elachistidae. Sie wurde erst sehr viel später in die von Davis (1986) aus Südamerika beschriebene Familie Palaephatidae überführt.

Walker (1864: 898) beschrieb seine "Elachista lativittella nach einem Einzelexemplar aus "Sydney" in Australien.
