3.1. Etymologie (Namenserklärung)
Tabell et al. (2025: 56) erklären: "The specific epithet refers to the island of Gran Canaria, where the moths were collected."
3.2. Taxonomie
Tabell et al. (2025) diskutieren die bisher 7 aus Spanien (inkl. Balearen und Kanaren) bekannten Pleurota-Arten und ergänzen sie um gleich 6 neu beschriebene Arten. P. grancanariella sieht nach ihnen ähnlich aus wie die aus Marokko beschriebene P. tricolor. Die Autoren erklären zur Genetik von P. grancanariella: "Two specimens were sequenced successfully, resulting in 654 and 653 bp barcode fragments. The nearest neighbour to P. grancanariella is P. algeriella Baker, 1885 from Algeria, with a 6.44 % divergence. The barcodes of P. grancanariella exhibit 0.15 % intraspecific variation."

Tabell et al. (2025: 56) schreiben zur bisher bekannten Verbreitung des wahrscheinlichen Kanaren-Endemiten: "Endemic to Gran Canaria, where it is known in Maspalomas and surrounding slopes and in El Sao."
