"The species name refers to the type locality in the Cottian Alps (Alpi Cozie, Alpes cottiennes)" (Huemer & Mutanen 2015).

"Only known from a small area in the southwestern Alps (Cottian Alps) of Italy and France. An alleged K. alternans from the Graian Alps (Huemer and Tarmann 1992) likely refers to K. cottiensis, but the specimen in question could not be re-examined" (Huemer & Mutanen 2015).
