Christoph (1862) schreibt in seiner Erstbeschreibung: "Ich fand die erwachsenen Raupen nur an der Unterseite der Blätter und am Stengel von Phlomis pungens auf sehr dürrer Steppe, 7 Meilen südlich von Sarepta."

4.2. Faunistik

Locus typicus ist "7 Meilen südlich von Sarepta" im europäischen Teil von Russland. Baldizzone (2019: 589) nennt daneben nicht nur Kasachstan und Turkmenistan, sondern führt die Art - nach einem von ihm selbst gefangenen und bestimmten Einzelexemplar - auch aus Italien an: "In Italia è stata raccolta solo in Calabria: Monte Pollino, sopre Civita (CS) 1100 m (Baldizzone leg.)."

Baldizzone (1994: 209) designierte einen Neotypus: “Neotypus ♂: esemplare in buone condizioni, munito di astuccio larvale, conservato nella collezione Christoph des BMNH, reca le seguenti etichette: 1) «NEOTYPE» (rotondo, orlato di rosso), 2) «♂ Sarepta (recto), 20 6 67 (verso)» 3) un piccolo cartellino rotondo color oro. 4) un piccolo cartellino rotondo bianco. 5) «Christoph Coll. Walsingham Collection, 1910-427», 6) «B.M. ♂ Genitalia Slide N.° 27361», 7) «NEOTYPUS ♂ Coleophora phlomidella Christ., Baldizzone 1993» (rosso).”
