Evans (1952: 78) beschrieb das Taxon noch als "Codotractus alcaeus ssp. apulia". Er erklärte: "Sub-sp. apulia nov: ♂ Ecuador (coll Hewitson): type B.M. B.M. 1 ♂ type. 1 ♂ H.M.S. Herald expedition 1860, obtained most probably in Panama."
