Es wird vermutet, dass alle Arten der Gattung Bryotopha primär an verschiedenen Moosen leben. Für die meisten Arten sind keine konkreten Funde bekannt. Auch die Raupe von B. politella wurde erst sehr spät entdeckt. Gregersen & Karsholt (2022: 216) zeigten ein Raupenfoto, wiederholten die Raupenbeschreibung von Heckford & Sterling (2003: 224) und trugen das wenige Bekannte zur Raupennahrung zusammen: "Host-plant. Moss, Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus growing on the ground amongst grass; the larva probably eats both moss and grass like B. terrella (Heckford & Sterling op. cit.) and lives in a very flimsy, semi-transparent, whitish, silken tube about two or three times the length of the larva with no fragments of moss or grass attached (Heckford & Sterling op. cit.)."

Auf der [Artseite auf norfolkmoths.co.uk] heißt es auf Basis der gleichen Quelle: "Foodplant: Moss (Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus and other unidentified sp.)".

Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus ist eines der häufigsten Moose im Grünland Europas - die Beschränkung des Falters auf Irland, Großbritannien und kleine Teile Frankreichs ist damit nicht zu erklären.
