Tiere aus Nordeuropa (Norwegen, Schweden, Finnland, nordwestlicher und nördlicher Bereich des europäischen Teils von Russland) wurde lange Zeit einer eigenen Art, T. borealis, zugerechnet. Aarvik et al. (2017) kommen zum Schluss: "We consider Taleporia borealis Wocke, 1862 as the unicolorous form of T. tubulosa. There are no distinguishing characters in the genitalia (Bengtsson et al. 2008). The two taxa cannot be separated by DNA barcoding (Marko Mutanen pers. comm.). The two taxa will be formally synonymized by Arnscheid & Weidlich (in press)." Die Arbeit von Arnscheid & Weidlich (2017) mit der formalen Synonymisierung ist bald darauf erschienen.
