[mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu] schreibt zu J. zonalis: "Junonia zonalis Felder & Felder, 1867, formerly a subspecies of 4442 Junonia evarete (Cramer, 1779), is treated as a full species in Neild (2008) and Cong et al. (2020)."

Felder & Felder (1867: 399-400) beschrieben ihre Art von "Nova Granada: Bogotà", "Cuba" und "Porto Rico". Nach Lalonde (2016) hat sie Florida erst Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts von Kuba oder den Bahamas aus erreicht, wo sie mit anderen Arten der Gattung hybridisiert.
