2.1. Taxonomie

Matsumura (1929: 81) stellte für seine neue Art eine eigene Familie auf: Ashinagidae. Später wurde sie meist bei den Stathmopodidae, dann den Oecophoridae zugeteilt. Wang & Li (2020) reaktivieren die artenarme Familie wieder.

2.2. Faunistik

Die Art wurde aus Taiwan (damals "Formosa") beschrieben: "Formosa; 5 male specimens were collected on the 20th of April, 1928, at Kusukusu (near Koshun) by the acetylene lamp, and another male by T. TAKAMUKU at Hori (Horisha)."
