3.1. Nahrung der Raupe
- [Sapindaceae:] Acer saccharum (Zucker-Ahorn)
Kulman (1967) vermerkte in seinem Abstract: "Eggs of Obrussa ochrefasciella (Chambers) were deposited singly on the petioles of terminal leaves of sugar maples, apparently in late spring. After boring through the bottom of the egg into the petiole, the larva burrowed back and forth, and finally bored into the newly formed axillary bud of the terminal and overwintered there. In the spring, the larva entered the terminal bud, where it constructed a tube with silk and maple sap. After the contents of the bud were consumed and the larva was fully grown, it burrowed out of the bud through the soft bark tissue about 1 mm below the bud, dropped to the ground, and pupated in a flat, tan cocoon on dead leaves in the duff. The adult emerged after a few weeks, in the late spring. The destruction of the terminal bud usually killed the terminal shoot from its tip back to the first pair of axillary buds, causing dichotomous branching and growth reduction. Other causes of dichotomous branching are contrasted with that of this bud miner. This species was reared from hard maples in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. Evidence was obtained that the insect occurs also in 12 other States. Its range is probably coextensive with that of the hard maples."
