  • ? [Asteraceae:] Senecio bonariensis [Vermutung von Stonis et al. (2018: 877)]

Stonis et al. (2018: 877) erläutern: “In the primary description, Bourquin (1962) listed two very different plants as possible hosts for S. guittonae: Senecio (Asteraceae) and Jussiaea (now Ludwigia, Onagraceae). At this time, both seemed unusual for Nepticulidae because no American species previously were known on Asteraceae or Onagraceae. We did not have an opportunity to verify Bourquin’s record, but we recently discovered that many Stigmella from the southern Andes or Patagonia, resembling S. guittonae, are leaf miners on various Asteraceae. Therefore, we now assume that Bourquin’s record of Senecio is correct and that his citation of Ludwigia as a possible host plant of S. guittonae is probably a mistake.”
