St Laurent et al. (2025: 60-61) akzeptieren die Aufsplitterung der Gattung Stauropus vorerst nicht und vermerken: "Note: The five subgenera of Stauropus listed below were treated as valid genera by Kobayashi and Nonaka (2016), but only singletons of each subgenus were sequenced in that study (all forming a single clade), making it unclear whether individual full genera are actually necessary. Subgenus Benbowia Kiriakoff, 1967 Type species: Stauropus virescens Moore, 1879 - Subgenus Chlorostauropus Kiriakoff, 1968 Type species: Stauropus viridissimus Bethune-Baker, 1904 - Subgenus Miostauropus Kiriakoff, 1964 Type species: Stauropus mioides Hampson, 1904 - Subgenus Palaeostauropus Okagaki and Nakamura, 1953 Type species: Stauropus obliterata Wileman and South, 1917 - Subgenus Stauropus Germar, 1812 Type species: Phalaena fagi Linnaeus, 1758."

Kiriakoff (1967:) vermerkte zu letzterem Taxon: "Holotype and paratype, males: Sumatra, Lebong Tandai, 3.XII.1921 and 2330.IX.1921 (C. J. Brooks) (BM). Very near to a continental undescribed species of DUDGEON from Sikkim, labelled as “St. virescens” in the British Museum (Natural History), from which latter it is, however, quite distinct. The insular form described above differs in details of the genital armature and must be considered to have reached specific rank."
