3.1. Etymologie (Namenserklärung)

Nupponen (2014) erläutert: "The species is dedicated to my friend and colleague Marko Nieminen, a Finnish entomologist".

3.2. Taxonomie und Faunistik

Scythris fissurella wurde aus dem Süd-Iran beschrieben. Nupponen (2007) meldete dann den überraschenden Fund eines Falters dieser Scythris fissurella Bengtsson, 1996 im Süd-Ural am Licht: "Russia, Astrahan oblast, 48º 08’ N 46º 52’ E, 10 m a.s.l., Baskunzak salt lake SW, Bogdo, 27-VIII-2006, 1 ♀, K. Nupponen leg. Genitalia slide: K. Nupponen prep. no. 1/14-X-2006. (Figs. 18-20)."

Er erläuterte dazu "Distribution: Iran, Oman, Pakistan, Russia (Lower Volga region), Sudan, Yemen. Remarks: S. fissurella is possibly a species complex (Bengtsson pers. comm.). However, further material from different localities is needed until the problem can be solved. For the moment the Russian specimen is considered as S. fissurella. The present record extends the known distribution range about 2000 km to the north. New to Europe and Russia."

Nupponen (2014) beschrieb dann Scythris niemineni aus West-Kasachstan und erläuterte dazu: "S. niemineni Nupponen, sp. n. belongs to the passerini species-group, comprising four species: S. nivicolor Meyrick, 1916, S. fissurella Bengtsson, 1996, S. passerini Bengtsson, 1997 and S. atollicola Nupponen, Saldaitis & Fischer, 2013.".

Anikin et al. (2017) stellen zu Scythris niemineni in der russischen Wolga-Ural-Region fest: "Was listed from Baskuntchak salt lake by Nupponen (2007) as fissurella [misidentification]." Sie führen die Art aus den Distrikten Kalmykien und Astrachan an. Scythris fissurella kommt demnach in Europa nicht vor - Angaben dazu beziehen sich in Wirklichkeit auf Scythris niemineni.

3.3. Typenmaterial

Die Art wurde nach einem einzelnen Männchen beschrieben; Nupponen (2014) erläutert: "Holotype ♂ (Fig. 12): Kazakhstan, 48º 47’ 20” N 60º 38’ 55” E, 190 m, steppe by Irgiz river, Besoba Mts., 3-IX-2012, K. Nupponen leg. Genitalia slide: K. Nupponen prep. no. 1/31-XII-2012. In coll. T. & K. Nupponen."
