Locus typicus ist El-Kantara in Algerien. Gaedike & Zerafa (2010) meldeten bei ihrer Erstbeschreibung von Eudarcia melitensis "nebenbei" auch Proterospastis autochthones als neu für Malta (und damit Europa). Das Taxon wurde nicht mehr in die Fauna Europaea, last update 23 July 2012, version 2.5 [nicht mehr zugänglich] eingearbeitet. Gaedike (2019: 78) schreibt zur Verbreitung: "In Europe hitherto only known from Malta, outside Europe known from North Africa (Libya, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia)."
