3.1. Etymologie (Namenserklärung)

Aurelian Popescu-Gorj benannte den Falter nicht nach sich selbst, sondern nach seinem Vater Aurelian Popescu, der ihn in die Entomologie eingeführt hatte: "Pelochrista aureliana sp.n. (Fig. 1) - name given in memory of my father, Aurelian Popescu who, together with my master, Aristide Caradja, greatly encouraged and supported me to become a lepidopterologist."

3.2. Taxonomie und Faunistik

Die Falter aus dem rumänischen Donautal wurden zunächst mit Pelochrista caementana aus Sarepta in Verbindung gebracht, dann aber als eigene Art beschrieben. Später kamen Angaben aus der Ukraine hinzu: siehe die Fotos von Alexandr Zhakov aus der Oblast Saporischschja, Rajon Melitopol, Myrne, 27 m, 20. August 2014.

3.3. Typenmaterial

Die Art wurde nach 3 Exemplaren aus dem Donautal in Rumänien beschrieben. Popescu-Gorj (1984: 233-234) teilt dazu mit: "The available material consisted of 3 ♂♂ collected at light on the 8-th of September 1979, in one of the "hachmacs" situated westwards of the Letea forest reservation, at about 1.5 km north of the C. A. Rosetti commune. [...] The holotype and 2 paratypes are preserved in the type collection of the "Grigore Antipa" Museum."
