2.2. Taxonomie

Plötz (1884: 23) beschrieb seine neue Art als "Antigonus bipuncta" aus Mexiko. Bis 2025 wurde sie dann als "Noctuana lactifera bipuncta" geführt, also als Unterart zu N. lactifera gestellt.

Zhang et al. (2025: 60) folgern dann aber aus ihrer genetischen Studie: "Noctuana bipuncta (Plötz, 1884) is a species distinct from Noctuana lactifera (Butler & H. Druce, 1872) - Genomic analysis reveals that Antigonus bipuncta Plötz, 1884 (type locality in Mexico) currently regarded as a subspecies of Noctuana lactifera (Butler & H. Druce, 1872) (type locality in Costa Rica) is genetically differentiated from it at the species level (Fig. 38), e.g., their COI barcodes differ by 3.3% (22 bp). Therefore, we propose that Noctuana bipuncta (Plötz, 1884), stat. rest. is a species distinct from Noctuana lactifera (Butler & H. Druce, 1872)."
