Evans (1952: 53) beschrieb seine neue Art nach einem Männchen aus Guerrero in Mexiko. Er kommentierte: "spinosa nov: ♂ Guerrero, Mexico: O. T. Barron: type B.M. 3 ♂ 1 ♀ Mexico. 3 ♂ 1 ♀ Panama."
