2.2. Taxonomie und Faunistik
Le Cerf (1922: 228-229) fand seine Teracolus ungemachi in 10 bzw. 100 m Höhe in Eritrea. Sie erklären: "Colotis ungemachi (Le Cerf, 1922) is a rare butterfly with a restricted range at the eastern tip of the Sahel biogeographic zone in Africa, extending to the Tihama, the flat dry coastal plain that extends along the Red Sea down to the tip of the Arabian Peninsula. The type series (3 males and 3 females) was caught in Eritrea, at Mersa Fatma (alt. 10 m) and Cabuia (alt. 100 m) on 10-15.i.1921 by H. Ungemach (Le Cerf, 1922). Since then, only a handful of specimens have been collected: A male from Saudi Arabia (near Sabt Aljarah, 19°16’N, 41°22’E) in January 1973, deposited in Locust Research Institute, Jeddah (Larsen, 1982); two specimens caught by A. S. Talhouk near Jizan (or Gizan =Jazan), Saudi Arabia, on 23.ii.1979 (Larsen, 1982); two males from Yemen (Wadi Rima, Mishrafa) on 13.v.1980 by T. Larsen, and an additional mention of “Yemen: near Mocha” cited in personal communications with him (Williams, 2018). S. Collins collected a specimen on 1.x.1987 in Khamis Bani Saad, Al Mahwit governorate in Yemen, now deposited in the African Butterfly Research Institute (ABRI), Nairobi. Additionally, D’Abrera (1980) and Ackery, Smith, and Vane-Wright (1995) mention north-eastern Ethiopia [= modern-day Eritrea] and possibly adjoining areas of Sudan as part of the distribution of this species. On 22 October 2015, the second author collected a female specimen at Danakil depression (13°30’28”N, 40°37’57”E), confirming the presence of the species in modern-day Ethiopia. The female, which has to our knowledge never been illustrated previously (Figure 1), conforms with the original description."
2.3. Typenmaterial
Le Cerf (1922: 229) legte innerhalb seiner Syntypen-Serie keinen Holotypus fest; er teilt mit: "Types : 3 ♂♂, 3 ♀♀, Érythrée. Mersa fatma (alt. —10m.), et Cabuia (alt, — 100 m.), 10-15 janvier 1921 ex. H. Ungemach."
