Aguiar & Karsholt (2006) berichten von Madeira: "We have found the larva of C. staintoni on Ilex perado (Aquifoliaceae), Myrica faya (Myricaceae) and Vaccinium padifolium (Ericaceae)."

4.2. Taxonomie

Der Ersatzname Clepsis staintoni wurde von Obraztsov (1955) vergeben, der die Notwendigkeit einer Neubenennung begründete: "Der Artname Tortrix reticulata Stt. ist durch die gleiche Namenkombination von Ström, 1783 (= Acleris rhombana Schiff. ab. reticulata Ström) praeokkupiert, weshalb ich den obigen neuen Namen vorschlage." Ström (1783: 86) hatte sein Taxon - also die heutige Acleris rhombana - als "Phalaena tortrix (reticulata) bezeichnet, und bei Kennel (1908: 96) lief es unter "Acalla reticulana Ström".
