Nach Williams (2018: 31) beschrieben Collins & Larsen in Larsen (2005) die Art als Celaenorrhinus aureus, die dann von Libert (2014) in Apallaga überführt wurde. Er zeigt ein Foto des Belegs des Holotypus aus der Republik Kongo und vermerkt dazu: "Holotype male: “Vouka, V 1973 (P. Moretto); genitalia SCC 472.” The Holotype is in the A.B.R.I., Nairobi."
