Bidzilya et al. (2019: 47) berichten: "In Israel larvae feed in stem galls on Nicotiana tabacum L. (Bodenheimer 1930a: 174; 1930b: 314–315). Die Art gilt in vielen Ländern als Schädling an Nicotiana tabacum, soll aber auch an einigen anderen Nachtschattengewächsen leben.

Zeitweiliges Vorkommen in Europa unklar! Huemer & Karsholt (2020: 131) schreiben: "Scrobipalpa aptatella. Records from Europe (France, Italy, former Yugoslavia) are unconfirmed (Huemer and Karsholt 2010)." Bei Huemer & Karsholt (2010: 59) heißt es konkret: Listed from France, Italy and former Yugoslavia by Povolný (1996a: 113) but also figured in a map for Greece by the same author (Povolný 1991b: 286). However Povolný (in litt.) has informed us that all these records were not based on examined material, but that he had once examined specimens of S. aptaella 'reared from mines on tobacco' from Bulgarian Macedonia. The Status of S. aptatella in Europe Needs confirmation. Originally distributed in eastern Australia this species was later introduced into large parts of the oriental and afrotropical regions (Povolný, 2002a: 84)."

Die Art wurde von Sri Lanka (Ceylon) beschrieben, also einem ihrer Orte, wohin sie verschleppt wurde. Bidzilya et al. (2019) führen sie aus Israel an.
