3.1. Etymologie (Namenserklärung)

Bidzilya (2023: 129) erläutert seine Namenswahl: "The specific epithet is derived from the Latin words “arena” - sand, and “colo” - to inhabit, and indicates the restriction of the new species to sandy habitats."

3.2. Taxonomie

Huemer & Karsholt (2010: 159) hatten das Taxon anhand eines Männchens bereits besprochen, waren sich hinsichtlich der Artberechtigung noch unsicher: "We examined a male specimen from the Ukraie (in ZMKU) wih almost identical genitalia compared to S. hyoscyamella. The moth, however, is blackish grey with diffuse black spots on the forewing. It is uncertain if it represents a unicolorous dark form of S. hyoscyamella or an additional species. This can probably only be solved when the female becomes known.

Für die neue Art liegen jetzt Barcoding-Ergebnisse vor: "The intraspecific average distance of the DNA barcode region is 0.12% (n = 3). The minimum distance to the nearest neighbor, S. inexplictata Bidzilya, Huemer & Šumpich, 2022 (BIN, BOLD:ADE0187), is 5.77% (p-dist) (Fig. 1)." Auch S. obsoletella steht der Art im Barcode nahe. Sie gehört damit überraschend nicht in die nähere Verwandtschaft der S. hyoscyamella.

3.3. Faunistik

Die Art wurde aus der Region Cherson in der Ukraine beschrieben und ist momentan auch nur von dort bekannt. Bidzilya (2023: 129) erklärt: "The species inhabits dunes and sand steppes in the Lower Dnipro Sands in the Kherson region of Ukraine".
