Die Art wurde auf der Basis eines einzelnen Männchens beschrieben: "The species strongly differs from Phragmataecia albida Erschoff, 1874, Ph. castaneae (Hübner, 1870) and Phragmacossia territa (Staudinger, 1878), recorded for adjacent territories, by peculiarities of the wing pattern (a strong grey suffusion almost throughout) and some details of the male genitalia: a relatively wide uncus base, short valvae, a long aedeagus."
